A kitchen remodel's timeline depends on the project's cost, since design and build run one after the other and both stretch longer as the budget grows. For a project up to $100,000, design takes 6 weeks and build takes 6 to 8 weeks. From $100,000 to $200,000, design runs 7 to 9 weeks with a 9 to 12 week build. Larger kitchens scale up from there. HHI sets the exact schedule with you before the remodel starts. Once cabinets arrive, work moves quickly: HHI can normally turn cabinets around in about two weeks, so plumbing, electrical, and structural or foundation inspections, where they apply, drive the schedule more than cabinet lead times do.

Most kitchen remodels need a permit, and HHI pulls it for you. The Town of Hilton Head Island handles permitting for the whole island, except Windmill Harbour, which goes through Beaufort County. A simple freshen-up with no structural or plumbing changes can be permitted in as little as two days. Most kitchen projects take one to five weeks to permit, and projects with structural work that need engineering and plan review can take five weeks, including two to three weeks of drawing review. If your kitchen project touches the exterior of the home and you live in a plantation, or in certain other areas, it also needs ARB approval before the town will accept the permit application.

Only two things ever change the price: you change your mind after design is complete, or a concealed condition turns up in an area there was no reason to open during design.
